Circle of Women
When I stand before a woman in my studio deciding how to paint her, I have a visceral response. The response can be evoked by the subtle turns of an arm or leg creating a long, beautiful line. It can be evoked by the sensual connection of the neck to the shoulder and breast. It can be the way the light caresses and envelopes a hand, hip or belly. And always the response is about color.

Each individual has a different harmony of warm and cool colors. It is created by their skin and the blood flowing beneath which make patterns over muscle flexed, stretched or in repose.

I paint nude women to add my personal perspective to a tradition usually represented by men. I look to the essence of the person and their life history as much as their physical persona for direction in the decision-making process.
